SonicWall Mobile Connect: Transitioning to NetExtender for Windows Users

As an MSSP, we understand the importance of staying ahead in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape. Keeping your systems updated is not just a recommendation—it's a critical step in maintaining robust security and functionality. Today, we want to ensure our SonicWall customers are aware of an important update regarding SonicWall’s VPN solutions for Windows users.

End of Support for Mobile Connect on Windows

On August 15, 2022, SonicWall officially ended support for Mobile Connect on the Windows operating system. While support was discontinued, Mobile Connect remained available for download via the Microsoft Store due to its unique capability of supporting ARM processors. However, with advancements in SonicWall’s technology, this availability is coming to an end.

Discontinuation of Mobile Connect on Microsoft Store

Effective February 24, 2025, SonicWall will remove Mobile Connect for Windows from the Microsoft Store. This decision aligns with the release of NetExtender version 10.3.0, which now includes full support for ARM processors. Although existing installations of Mobile Connect on Windows will continue to function after this date, SonicWall strongly recommends transitioning to NetExtender to ensure continued compatibility and access to the latest updates and support.

Why Transition to NetExtender?

The new version of NetExtender (10.3.0) offers enhanced features and benefits, including:

  • ARM Processor Support: Full compatibility with ARM-based Windows devices, addressing a critical gap previously covered by Mobile Connect.
  • Improved Security: Advanced encryption and authentication measures ensure secure remote access for your workforce.
  • Regular Updates: Access to SonicWall’s ongoing enhancements and patches, keeping your VPN solution resilient against emerging threats.
  • Seamless User Experience: Enhanced performance and reliability, designed to meet the needs of modern hybrid and remote work environments.

Logically recommends leveraging NetExtender 10.2 unless you have an ARM-based windows processor. Follow this link to see if you have an ARM-based processor.

Action Steps for Customers

To avoid disruption and ensure your organization continues to operate securely:

  1. Assess Your Current Installations: Identify Windows devices using Mobile Connect.
  2. Plan the Transition: Download and install NetExtender version 10.3.0 on affected devices. Test its compatibility and functionality in your environment.
  3. Educate Your Users: Provide training and resources to help your workforce smoothly transition to NetExtender.
  4. Stay Informed: Refer to SonicWall’s Lifecycle Page for detailed updates and information.

Mobile Connect Support on Other Platforms

It’s important to note that this discontinuation does not impact Mobile Connect on iOS, macOS, Android, or ChromeOS. SonicWall has no plans to end support for these operating systems, ensuring continuity for users relying on Mobile Connect across these platforms.
