Protect Yourself from Social Engineering Scams on Microsoft Teams

We want to alert you to a social engineering scam that is targeting our clients and many others. Scammers are exploiting the Microsoft Teams platform to impersonate trusted IT professionals, and it’s critical to stay vigilant. Here’s what you need to know:

How the Scam Works

Scammers are placing fraudulent calls through Microsoft Teams, manipulating the Caller ID to display names like “HelpDesk” or “IT Manager.” Once the user answers, the scammer will:

1. Pretend to be from the IT Department of said "company" or even claim to represent them.
2. Request the user to download or open a remote-control software such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or Quick Assist.
3. Gain unauthorized access to the machine to extract saved passwords or sensitive files.

What You Should Do

If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from “IT” at Logically or any other department, and the caller asks you to download remote-control software, follow these steps:

1. Do not comply with their requests.
2. Hang up immediately.
3. Verify the caller’s authenticity by contacting us directly at 866-946-9638.
   

How Logically Communicates with You

Logically will never cold call you via Microsoft Teams and ask for access to your device. When we reach out, it will be over the phone and only in response to an issue or ticket that you have submitted.

Recommended Preventive Measures

To further secure your environment, we recommend locking down Microsoft Teams to only approved external domains. This will help minimize the risk of unauthorized access.
